Conveyor collection systems – Automate to save money - download PDF datasheet

A conveyor belt positioned after the cutter will automate cut piece collection.
It also gives improved length accuracy and cut quality by supporting the
extrudate as it exits the cutter.

Multiple collection bins allow batches of cut lengths to be sorted.
If scrap is produced the collection system will be automatically
by-passed.

Although often overlooked, conveyor systems can bring
many cost saving benefits:

• Save labour costs by automatically batching cut lengths
• One operator to handle a number of lines
• High speed - can operate in-line at the fastest linespeeds
• Improve length accuracy and cut finish by supporting
the extrudate as it exits the cutter

Special stainless steel and medical versions are available.

Off-line cutting cell with Sonar loop tension control - download PDF datasheet

Designed for off-line use, our cutting cell consists of:

• Servo-Torq® Mini servo 'fly-knife' rotary cutter
• Integral Accra-Feed™ servo caterpillar infeeder
• Sonar low tension loop control device
• Powered un-wind stand (single & twin versions available)

The system is ideal for cutting flexible plastic and rubber extrusions off-line. It is particularly suited to working in medical clean rooms or automotive production cells.
The product is pulled off the un-wind stand by a powered nip roll unit. The speed of the nip roll is controlled by the sonar loop unit.
This ultra-sonic loop control system minimizes stretch and distortion. This enables the Servo-Torq Mini cutter to achieve very accurate cut lengths.

Saw & Circular Blade Cutting Systems

Cost effective solutions for cutting a wide variety of extruded materials,
from rigid plastic extrusions, through to metal reinforced profiles and
wire braided hose.

Travelling saws for rigid plastic profile & pipe - download PDF datasheet

Servo & air driven
Our range of up-stroking saws provide an effective answer for cutting rigid
plastic pipe and profile. The moving carriage can either be moved by servo motor
or an air cylinder.
The fully adjustable clamping system guarantees a square cut, while the optional
swarf extraction system keeps the cut end clean.

Metal-Cut™ circular blade cutters for metal supported profiles

The cost effective way to cut automotive sealing profiles
Designed to cut all types of metal reinforced profiles including wire, punched or
stamped strip and continuous rolled strip. Using a high speed circular blade to
slice through the extrudate, the cutter moves in and out of the extrusion by a
servo driven ball screw assembly.
Two versions of the machine are available; a fixed-head cutter for flexible
extrusions and a moving-head machine for rigid profiles.

Braid-Cut™ for stainless steel braided PTFE tube cutting

Cut stainless steel braided hose cleanly
Not only does this machine cut through stainless braided hose, but uses
an integral welding head to fuse the wire ends together. This leaves a
perfect cut finish. Fully PLC controlled, the advanced program ensures
total synchronisation between the welding & cutting.

COILERS AND WINDERS - download PDF datasheet

The Series 5 range of single and twin-head reelers (photo A1) are designed for the low-tension coiling of plastic or rubber tube, hose, pipe and profile.

The main benefits to the user are:

  • Low tension coiling removes the possibility of the extrusion being stretched or distorted as it is being coiled.
  • We offer a choice of Uhing® roller-box or servo motor traverse mechanisms for perfect layering control.
  • Wide range of quick change mandrels and coiling heads.
  • Accurate length measuring of coil lengths with ultra-precise encoder systems
  • Option to have an automatic cutter installed.
  • Easy-to-use controls with option of PLC and touch-screens for easier organization.
  • New technology reduces maintenance downtime considerably.

Mode of Operation

The coiling heads can either be fitted with stub shafts to accept customer’s own reels of with a range of collapsible ‘self-tie’ coiling assemblies.

A fully automatic traverse mechanism is provided to ensure neat side-by-side layering from start to finish. The traverse is easily set to suit tube and profile from 1 to 50 mm wide. For basic reeling applications a Uhing® roller box system is used to control the traverse. For more complex and delicate applications a servo controlled traverse mechanism is recommended.

An auto-stop facility stops each coil when the correct amount of material has been wound-on. Twin length counters can be supplied to make it possible to set different lengths for each coil head.

The maximum coiling speed is set using a ten-turn potentiometer. The coiling tension and exact matching of linespeed is achieved by either a light-weight dancing arm or an ultra-sonic loop detector.

A guillotine cut-off facility is available as an option as are a wide variety of different coil heads, including collapsible mandrels.

PAY-OFFS AND UN-WIND SYSTEMS

We can also supply a wide range of solutions for un-winding tube, hose and profile from drums, bobbins or loose coils.

The photographs here show two examples:

  • A loose coil of medical grade flexible PVC tube being feed into our Servo-Torq® Mini rotary cutter off-line cutting station. The turntable is braked to prevent over-run. It can also be tilted to ease the unwind process
  • A large metal drum on our roller bed unwind system. This version is designed for heavy coils or drums which cannot be easily lifted. Again it is feeding into a Servo-Torq® Mini off-line cutting system, this time with in-line ink-jet printing and flaw detection.

In both cases we have used our Ultra-sonic sonar loop detector to control the speed of the unwind process relative to the cutting speed.

We can also supply un-wind and wind-up systems for creating accurately measured small coils from a single large drum of material.
